You Are Gifted

An airplane was about to crash. There were 4 passengers on board, but only 3 parachutes.

The 1st passenger said, ‘I am Steph Curry, the best NBA basketball player. The Warriors and my millions of fans need me, and I can’t afford to die.’ So he took the 1st pack and left the plane.

The 2nd passenger, Donald Trump, said, ‘I am the newly-elected US President, and I am the smartest President in American history, so my people don’t want me to die.’ He took the 2nd pack and jumped out of the plane.

The 3rd passenger, the Pope, said to the 4th passenger, a 10-year-old schoolboy, ‘My son, I am old and don’t have many years left, you have more years ahead so I will sacrifice my life and let you have the last parachute.’

The little boy said, ‘That’s okay, Your Holiness, there’s a parachute left for you. America ‘s smartest President took my schoolbag…’

Have you ever asked the question, ‘AM I GIFTED?’

Some of you may be sitting reading this thinking:
‘Chris, don’t worry… I have lots of gifts! I’m sporty, I’m smart, I’m funny, I’m pretty, I’m artistic, I’m musical AAAANNNDD… I’m humble.’

Most youth that I speak to, have no idea of the skills given to them by God! And if they can identify some, they are not to sure why they have them or what to do with them! And some of you may be sitting looking at the screen and shouting ‘CHRIS… I HAVE NO GIFTS!’ Let me tell you, if you are reading this blog right now, you have a gift that 774 million people in the world don’t have.

What I’d love you to know and own today, is this:

1. You are gifted.
2. Your gifts have a purpose.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received
to serve others.”
1 Peter 4:10

3 simple truths from Scripture:

God says you are gifted. ‘use whatever gift’
God has given you your gifts. ‘you have recieved’
You have gifts so you can give. ‘to serve others’

Often we can get caught up in how amazing, talented or gifted other people are… We forget about what God has given us. Peter in this letter writes so clearly that God has given you gifts, and your gifts should be used to bless others. When he writes ‘whatever gift’, he literally means ‘WHATEVER’.

Are you funny? Tell a joke and bless someone.
Are you a writer? Write words to bless others.
Are you fast? Run fast and bless God by using your gift well.
Do you think outside the box? Be creative and bless others.

If you still can’t work out what your gift is, ask God. Simply ask him and say:
‘God, please make it clear to me the gifts you have given because I want to bless you and serve others well.’

Identified your gifts? GOOD!
Now serve!

The reason why God has given us gifts, is to bless him and bless others. Jesus showed us time and time again what it meant to serve. And if Jesus served, so should we. Let me assure you, when you use your gifts to bless God and bless others, it is SO worth it! There is such joy in it!

However often we can feel the URGH moments. You know? The… I’m not good enough to serve moments. The ‘I know I have skills but I’m not a good enough person to bless others.’

Why not take a look at some of the people below that God used to bless others. Not really the most attractive, nice, got-it-together sort of people don’t ya think?

Abraham was old.
Elijah was suicidal.
Joseph was abused.
Job went bankrupt.
Moses had a speech problem.
Gideon was afraid.
Samson was a womanizer.
Rahab was a prostitute.
The Samaritan Woman was divorced.
Noah was a Drunk.
Jeremiah was young.
Jacob was a cheater.
David was a murderer.
Jonah ran from God.
Naomi was a widow.
Peter denied Jesus.
Martha worried about everything.
Zacchaeus was greedy.
The Disciples fell asleep while praying.
Paul persecuted Christians before becoming one.

I wonder how many you can identify with?
I for sure can identify with a number of them!

Do not let the flaws in your life, determine how much you can give. God has made you in his image, and has called you gifted. If the creator of the universe thinks your gifted, then you are!!

Serve him, bless others, and receive incredible joy in doing so!

Your friend, Chris.

[We all have gifts, but these kids are insane!]
